Students, faculty and staff at EMCC’s Golden Triangle campus honored U.S. veterans Nov. 11 during the annual “Proud to be an American” program. The event featured songs by the EMCC Choir, presentation of the colors and a flag-folding ceremony by JROTC cadets from West Lowndes High School, a talk about early American cuisine by EMCC instructor Kelly Cantrell and remarks by guest speaker Lt. EMCC LIONS CLAIM MACJC STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP, 75-71

GOLDEN TRIANGLE BUSINESS EXPO East Mississippi Community College was the site Oct. 29 of the first-ever Golden Triangle Business Expo. Members of the Columbus-Lowndes Development LINK, the Greater Starkville Development Partnership and the West Point/Clay County Community Growth Alliance gathered at the Lyceum auditorium for a morning of networking and seminars.  Mississippi Power hosted a Business Opportunity Fair Nov. 4 at Keyes Currie Coliseum on EMCC's Scooba campus. During the fair, Mississippi Power representatives met with hundreds of business owners from all over the state who are interested in helping with the construction of a proposed Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle power plant in Kemper County. The plant, scheduled to come online as early as 2014, is expected to provide more than 250 jobs.

STARSTRUCK TALENT SEARCH
Landon Duane Ewing of West Point won the grand prize in EMCC’s StarStruck Talent Search, held Oct. 17 at the college’s Golden Triangle campus. The event was organized by marketing students to raise money to attend the Collegiate Leadership Academy, coming up later this month in New York City. Ewing, who performed in the Urban/R&B category, is shown with EMCC marketing instructor Lori Smith. Other winners included Ashleigh Agustin of Starkville in the Country/Gospel category, and 7th Street of Columbus in the Rock/Pop category. n More: Photo gallery of performers |
