NEW PARTNERS: EMCC AND SAINT LEO UNIVERSITY

East Mississippi Community College and Saint Leo University have signed an agreement that will make it easier for EMCC students to study at Columbus Air Force Base and earn a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university.

Saint Leo University, which operates on Columbus AFB, will allow EMCC graduates with associate's degrees to enter Saint Leo University and begin earning the additional academic credits required for a bachelor’s degree. In practical terms, this will smooth the transfer path for virtually all students, giving working adult students, in particular, a convenient way to reach their educational goals.

Both East Mississippi Community College and Saint Leo University are accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.

“Our partnership with East Mississippi Community College will allow us to serve more local residents who wish to continue their education at a student-centered institution,” said Saint Leo University President Arthur F. Kirk Jr. Saint Leo’s Columbus AFB location offers bachelor’s programs in business administration, criminal justice, and psychology.

EMCC President Dr. Rick Young agreed.

“At EMCC, we work to remove the barriers between people and education, whether they involve financial needs or scheduling conflicts or geographical convenience,” Young said. “We’re fortunate to enter into this agreement with a fine school like Saint Leo University – and happy to be able to knock down another hurdle for our students.”

With an enrollment of more than 4,000, East Mississippi Community College offers a wide variety of academic and career-technical programs at six locations: Columbus Air Force Base, Mayhew/Golden Triangle, West Point, Macon, Scooba and Naval Air Station Meridian. For more information about classes at CAFB, call branch director Jackie Newton at (662) 434-2660.

Saint Leo University is a leader in the field of online education and one of the nation’s foremost providers of higher education to the military. Its Columbus Air Force Base Center is in Building 926, Suite 120. For more information about taking advantage of the university’s new partnership with EMCC, call SLU Extension Director Dew White at (662) 434-8844.
