Art reception for Kent and Winki Allen Tuesday, April 7 Art Reception and opening of exhibit of work by Kent and Winki Allen in Aust Hall. Both are longtime members of the Craftsman’s Guild of Mississippi and teach in Lauderdale County schools. .
Winki Allen demonstrates weaving to a group of EMCC students. “How could I not love fibers?” Allen said, “As I child, I sat in my mother’s lap as she sewed gingham dresses for my sister and me. My grandmother, Abbie, taught me at a very young age to crochet and tat. My great aunts – Mattie, Lillie and Callie – were knitters, lace-makers, teachers, poets and storytellers. I learned many things from the wisdom of their hearts and voices and from the skills of their hands.”

"Several weeks ago, I was exploring a Mississippian Culture site littered with centuries-old bits of stamped and incised pottery. Shortly after that, I was visiting the Mississippi Crafts Center admiring rows of contemporary and traditional ceramics. Clay has a universal appeal. It is an easily approachable medium that offers unlimited creative opportunities.” Self-portrait, by Kent Allen .

QEP Scavenger Hunt: "Bringing Back the Proof" Wednesday, April 8 The scavenger hunt was a new event to Pine Grove Festival. Sponsors had an overwhelming response from the students -- 10 teams of five students each preregistered and at least two other teams came the day of the event to participate. In fact, sponsors had to scramble to ensure all teams had clipboards and shirts. The students had a fun time running around campus snapping pictures from a list of items ranging from a security guard and a 1942 EMCC yearbook, to the instructor who was once Miss Louisville and the original location of the gymnasium.
